Our Involvement

The increasing frequency of natural disasters in Australia has had a profound impact on housing, leaving many individuals without stable accommodation. These individuals often find themselves in temporary housing, if available, for extended periods of time. Factors such as shortages of building materials, insurance disputes, or lack of insurance coverage further delay their return to their family homes.

Rotary Club of Ballina

After exhaustive fundraising, the Rotary Club of Ballina on Richmond teamed up with Rapid Response Housing to provide an initial 26 Expanda Boxes to families displaced by the record-breaking flooding of 2022. These families finally now have a safe space to live in on their properties while they rebuild their flood affected homes.

This project is ongoing as there is still a significant need for warm and dry spaces in the Lismore/Ballina area.

RAWCS

Building on the successes and lessons learned from the Lismore project, a Joint Venture between Rotary Australia World Community Service (RAWCS) and Rapid Response Housing has been established to secure funding for stockpiling Expanda Boxes, enabling immediate response and support for individuals affected by future events and in need of shelter.

Partnering with RAWCS provides unparalleled disaster response benefits, leveraging the extensive network of over 30,000 Rotary Volunteers from over 1,000 Rotary Clubs across Australia. These volunteers, consisting of community members, business and industry leaders, and educators, have established relationships with all aspects of the community, including local governments and councils. With storage facilities nationwide and the capacity for fundraising, this collaboration ensures a comprehensive solution to address logistical and support requirements.
